Somerton  is a beautiful quiet and reserved town  steeped in history  of modern and traditional architecture suitable for everyone…
There are many Highlights of the town including an old market place with a lovely Buttercross which is floodlit at night. Around and in the Market Place you can find the old Town Hall, arms houses, the old courthouse which is now The Courthouse Gallery,surrounded by an array of small villages and near by towns – Muchelney Abbey  and Muchelney Pottery   ,as well as Langport  and then Street and Glastonbury are within 8 miles.
Somerton has to offer a variety of restaurants and local Cafe`s enticing you with home made produce .
There are many walks throughout the town for all abilities which take you in and around Somerton and beyond  with stunning views across the Viaduct Fishery specialising in course fishing with six well stocked lakes.

  • National Trusts are in abundance here – the closest is Lytes Cary ,then Montacute House and Barrington Court  all within a 10-30 min drive away.
  • Beautiful Gertrude Jekyll-inspired gardens, kitchen gardens and beautiful manor house. This empty Tudor manor house,   was so beautifully restored in the 1920s by the Lyle family. They lived in style, installing a sprung dance floor; the winding mechanism can still be seen under the sweeping main staircase.


  • Fleet Air Arm Museum and Haynes Motor Museum. Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole are natural attractions that offer plenty to do.
  • The Willow and Wetlands Centre – a lovely area to design and play with the willows on the Somerset levels –  seeing how they make the willow weaving .www.englishwillowbaskets.co.uk
  •  A trip to the nearest beaches are approx 40 minutes away with lovely coastal walks to Lyme Regis,Seaton,West bay and Burnham on Sea.
